On-the-job Training
A career in construction is challenging because construction is a complex and always changing profession. The willingness and ability to learn and grow from experience is critical; as well as, the flexibility to deal with change is vital to both the company and personal growth.
Carl A. Nelson & Co. understands the importance of well trained employees. For field employees who want to improve their skills, Carl A. Nelson & Co. offers an expenses paid Commercial Carpenter Apprenticeship Program. At the end of the program, employees receive a Journeyman Diploma. We also realize that hands-on training occurs daily at the job-site. Our employees' skill improvements are closely monitored. Field employees' skills are assessed after the first 30 days and then every March and September, thereafter. Compensation can be adjusted at each skill assessment period.
Our project engineers are exposed to all aspects of the construction process; including estimating, scheduling and project management. Experienced project managers share their knowledge and skills, one on one, for an optimal learning atmosphere. The result is project engineers with a well-rounded understanding of the entire construction process.
On-the-job training is not only for new employess. Experienced project managers routinely meet and discuss issues and ideas to improve the performance of Carl A. Nelson & Co.
