Industrial Construction

Production Plant and Corporate Office

Guelph, Ontario Canada

This project includes a production facility for pet food and is the corporate headquarters for Royal Canin in Canada. Besides production, the facility includes a customer training center, offices, maintenance shop and parts storage, quality control lab, a guard house, and a waste water treatment plant.

Carl A. Nelson led the design-build team in developing the building and the site. The 94 acre site included wetlands, protected forest, zoning restrictions and prohibition of off-site storm water discharges. Carl A. Nelson & Co. provided engineering support to obtain all the permits for the project which included storm water, air, noise, water taking, signage, building, waste water, and a site plan development agreement. The facility was designed to accommodate hazardous materials which included caustics, combustible liquids and battery acid. The warehouse, process tower, bio-filter system by BIOREM and building mechanical/electrical systems were all designed to be expandable for future expansions. Carl A. Nelson & Co. produced all construction documents in metric units and the project was built using these units.
